Under the Make in India initiative, Railways has built a modern engine capable of running at speeds of 200 km/h, at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works of West Bengal. The engine's aerodynamic design reduces air drag and produces higher speeds with more energy efficiency.pic.twitter.com/nrS9JtHsbG

May be this govt might have allocated money for aerodynamic design change and few cabin changes and one shouldn't believe that the entire locomotive is built under MII as new.

3/3 Piyush Goel announced WAP-5 locomotives are under the MII initiatives; but when we look into the history of WAP-5, we understand that the product is well built even before Make In India was introduced in Sep 2014.

2/3 CLW introduced 200 km/h version in 2015 itself as per Wiki. But the funny part is that CLW website (http://www.clw.indianrailways.gov.in/view_section.jsp?lang=0&id=0,296,306 …) is still not updated and 5400 HP loco has max speed 160 kmph.

1/3 WAP-5 locomotives were initially imported from Switzerland (Swiss design + German mechanics) in 1995. Since then, state-owned Chittaranjan Locomotive Works made new engines under this category with several changes on it in design and mechanics.
