@PitfallCreator tracked the player’s lives as a bitmap. The Atari would display a dot or a line, if the binary representation of a number in a bitmap contained a 1 and not a 0. When the player has 2 lives, 0b10100000 is stored in memory as the life counter. (2/4)Pokaż ten wątek
The Pitfall code was finished (and exactly filled the ROM) before I added extra lives. I rewrote code for a week to find a byte of RAM and the code to drop Harry from the sky on rebirth. But I'm glad I did - the game would have been too hard with only one life.

I was going to tweet about the life tracking or how you generated 256 screen world with a consistent and REVERSIBLE sequence using a PRNG and an 8-bit map, but the life tracking seemed easier to explain. It’s all still amazing in 2020!
