As a gay man I’m deeply disappointed this has went as ‘nuclear’ as it has. The level of outrage is beyond parody. I watched the show, loved it, I realise it’s a song lyric which has been played every Xmas for years. Lets spend time fighting real battles which affect actual lives.

Preach man. We spend so much time caring about stuff like this that doesnt matter and less time fighting for things that actually does

About a decade ago, the BBC decided to censor that line when the song was played on radio. They were widely pilloried for it, including by many LGBT people and groups. The following year, the line was back.

Not buying it. It’s how homophobic people spoke, and they are playing the part of a not particularly likeable couple in fairytale of New York. He was a goddamn drunk in the song!

Again you fail to mention that the word f****t used in that song may be a gay slur today but in the song it means something entirely different. Why can’t you state that instead of creating such an obsessional drama over this?pic.twitter.com/3WJmR9KaY9

Yeah, it means a bundle of sticks.
