What a waste of a life. I'm trans and know the hate from phobic people and it's awful and causes death in my community. however I'm a human the same as this young man and understand that he was suffering. Hate is toxic and causes damage to all, even those who act on it.

The young man himself was gay, but was aligned with a homophobic political party, so I think it's fair to say he had issues with internalised homophobia. That pre-existing stress, plus being (rightly) criticised for harassing people, seems to have been too much for him to bear.
