It's great to see folks interested in learning! It's hard to explain in limited characters, but one reason it's important is because sometimes they're so used to being invalidated that remembering pronouns or something like that can really help them keep going.

The use of a pronoun in ordinary language is as much a function of the perception of the speaker, as it is a matter of the self-conception of the person to whom it is applied. There is no such thing as “my pronouns.”

If gender is a social concept, and gender categories are socially constructed, then its hard to see why no one else's perception of your gender are relevant to your gender identity.
