Best practice is to apply a person’s gender retroactively in all cases. If he’s referencing past events, it’s easy enough to say “formerly known as X”

It's not about the name, it's about acceptance. My deadname is meaningless to me... so why bring it up? You don't go round calling people who change their name when they marry by their old name, why do it to trans people? Pets get more respect when it comes to names/pronouns.
