Has he read the book? The young guy is the predator if anything. He chases the visitor. Who says no to start with. When viewed in context the film is disappointing as it misses out a lot of the subtleties and romance. But doesn't glamorise the age gap. It's just fact of life.

I always thought the same. Imagine if it were a 17 year old girl and an older guy. The public would've been seizuring!

Usually, it's difficult to argue against hypotheticals, but yours is actually pretty easy to refute: Dirty Dancing (she's 17; he's 25) is basically considered a romance classic; An Education (she's 16, and he's ~30); Gone With the Wind (she's 16; he's 33). Etc, etc, etc...

Elio is definitely the predator as Oliver tries to resist the temptation. The book clarifies it even more. Guys of his age know exactly what the want, like, or want to try & in this case, it’s more about the drawn out withheld romance than sex. You are invalidating the love!

So what ur saying is that, if some young guy that’s barely legal tries to seduce u and u being the older adult go along with it. U have absolutely no fault in it at all and it’s all the fault of barely legal youth....
