Acting is the keyword. Ian mckellen didn't need to have lived the life of a wizard to play Gandalf and jack Whitehall didn't need to live the life of a gay man to play this character.

Isn't that what acting is about? Are we then saying that a gay actor can't play a straight role?

Openly gay actors lose work all the damon time. https://www.vice.com/en_uk/article/mb4wqb/if-you-dont-get-the-outrage-at-jack-whitehall-being-cast-in-a-queer-role-let-me-explain …

The best actors should be given gay roles. The best actors should be given straight roles. Ledger and Gylenhal were excellent in Brokeback Mountain. We want equality not exclusivity.

This is a ridiculous debate. The whole point of acting is to portray a character. Someone else. Before long, we'll only have sailors playing sailors, murderers playing murderers, and dickheads playing Donald trump.

there’s plenty of gay actors out there but they’re never given the roles
I also believe it’s better for teens (at least what I felt as a teen) to have lgbt characters played by lgbt people so we can look up to them both in action and outside their roleThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Yes if they’re good at their job they most certainly should, l&g actors play straight roles all the time!
-
Yeah. Just as long as they stay in the closet. Once they come out they stop getting the big roles, usually typecast as comic relief or villains.
