I am honestly baffled about why net neutrality is on anyone's list of top political issues in 2018. People who care deeply about this, can you express in tweet form why you find it so significant, given what else is at stake this year?

I'm equally baffled why you think there's a finite amount of political activism, and that your issues should take precedence? Without net neutrality, you won't have a platform for your other causes. Your movements will die with a whimper.

That’s not really true, is it? Grassroots political activism existed long before the Internet. The heyday of the American civil rights movement was long before AOL.

I did the grassroots, knocking-on-doors thing maybe 14 years ago. Today, I think you'd be putting your life in danger doing that. There is no hope of organization above the community level w/o a free and open internet, and I think the forces opposing net neutrality know that.

The trap we have to avoid falling into is deciding some fights are more important than others, and therefore we should abandon some of our freedoms to defend others. It's a war with multiple fronts, and we cannot yield on any of them, or we will eventually lose all of them.

History teaches us that fighting a war on multiple fronts is always a winning strategy.
