Zing! Except adderall is literally amphetamine. A methylated duck still quacks. The salient difference between adderall and meth is that the government doesn't manufacture high-purity meth for the lower classeshttps://twitter.com/thalestral/status/987435439614144512 …

Absolutely. But the difference is analogous to fentanyl and heroin rather than human and banana.

so when do we get to hear you rail about the evils of Naloxone (Narcan)? after all, it's just a slightly tweaked Oxymorphone, and therefore one of those horrible drugs causing the opioid crisis

Amphetamines have legitimate therapeutic use. All the more reason to be honest about them. Meth is not some scary monster drug; it's an unregulated and impure variant of something broadly used by a broad swath of the middle class.

totally agree! but one of the big stereotypes about ppl with ADHD is "they don't have an actual medical problem, they're just lazy bums looking for a meth rush."

so when you equate ADHD meds & meth without much nuance or explanation...that's why many people are going to take this tweet as a slap in the face.https://twitter.com/Pinboard/status/987911492379918341 …

It's hard to talk with nuance on twitter. I think all these things are true: that the meth/amph distinction is an artifact of the war on drugs which stigmatizes the poor, that Adderall is used recreationally like meth, and that it is a lifechanging drug for those with ADHD
