Hire people to maintain them? Where would these people live on that salary? You can barely park a car on the street without the window being smashed in. Public toilets in Japan exist because people don't destroy them, not because they have an army of cleaners.

I want the same things you do but I think there's a fair percentage of America that lacks the respect and civility needed to maintain nice public services. Lots of problems to solve before we can get there
