Sam Altman has done enough damage in this world without introducing super kudzu.
http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2017/07/climate-change-earth-too-hot-for-humans.html … If super kudzu worries you, you aren't scared enough yet. We're dealing with an entirely different scale of problem.
I work in ag, and super kudzu is a fun punchline but the implication here is he’s blue skying insanely obvious ideas and people take it seriously. This is up with “has anyone considered a more efficient car”
He knows this isn't a remotely new idea. He wants to give money to the people already working on it.
and I’d argue his role isn’t to give money to people working on things, it’s to spin existing efforts into startup efforts that can’t effectively operate but have good term sheets
Would this be your reaction to anyone with private money wanting to invest in carbon capture with genetic engineering or specifically him? If this is just personal acrimony then it's probably not worth debating.
My reaction is based on YC's track record of working outside existing structures and institutions when pursuing 'blue sky' ideas, and depriving themselves of domain experience that includes basic caution. I have no personal animus agains Altman (though I enjoy making fun of him)
for sure, you can get an entire history by googling “co2 capture” or “co2 reclamation” and it sounds like he only finds idea via pitches and not research
Bah! Research by definition only finds you old ideas. He wants new ideas!
gah, that one gets me every time!
