Yesterday, Great Slate candidate Greg Edwards spoke to us very candidly about what it will take to win his primary in the Lehigh Valley this Maypic.twitter.com/rG5zomDJDr

Edwards is in a six-way primary in his district, where a plurality wins. He has two serious opponents, one of whom, John Morganelli, has wide name recognition in the district. I twote about Morganelli a few days ago—he's the guy who begged Trump for a jobhttps://twitter.com/Pinboard/status/970852921180131329 …

I'd like to tweet for a moment not about Greg Edwards, but his opponent in this district, John Morganelli. In many ways, Morganelli is a typical Republican. He's a former prosecutor, pro-life, staunch opponent of immigration, and has praised Trump's expansion of ICE

The worry is primary voters may pick Morganelli because of his familiar name, not knowing much about his toxic politics. Edwards is confident he can win those votes if he can reach the voters, and so he's conducting a massive field operation ahead of the primary.

The plan is to knock on the door of each likely voter three times before the primary. Experience shows if you can talk three times to a voter, they will come out for you. But each door knock (with a bilingual team) costs $2.50. For the 18K voters Edwards needs, that's $135,000

You might think, "why can't volunteers do this door knocking for free?" But to organize and train volunteers also takes paid staff and resources! The bottom line is, direct voter outreach is expensive because it gets results. Without your donations, Edwards could not do this.

People will vote for Edwards because he is a phenomenal candidate. You can't turn out voters for a dud. But people will only find out about his awesomeness if we can get the word out, and doing that takes feet on the ground. Those feet deserve a living wage for their work.

If we do nothing, Morganelli wins this primary—a ferociously anti-immigrant former prosecutor. So we're doing something. Every $75 you give Edwards is 10 more front porches he can reach. This is what field means, and this is what the Great Slate is fundinghttps://secure.actblue.com/donate/great_slate …

And here is a flavor of what knocking doors for Edwards looks like. The guy I went canvassing with works a night shift, and sacrificed a night of sleep to do it, back when the district was still "hopelessly red". People are so hungry for change.https://twitter.com/Pinboard/status/942952520770621440 …

This afternoon I got to meet @edwardsforpa in Allentown, PA. Greg Edwards is a firebrand and an unabashed progressive running in the 15th disrict of PA. Here he is firing up 21 volunteers who came out to canvass on a cold December day pic.twitter.com/RVNA9HDjYp
