The fact that they take great pains to protect user information—the source of their wealth—allows Facebook employees to see themselves in all sincerity as guardians of privacy. If you don't understand that mentality, you're missing the unique danger Facebook presents.

That is a position they can claim after making their initial money by actually selling user information! The CA fiasco is this past coming back to haunt them!

compared to Google they are doing well of a shitty job at protecting that data :-P Facebooks Ad-Insight goes so far that specific usergroups can be analyzed, google would never release such precious information, their products are based on it.
