A crisis of legitimacy is when political authority has lost credibility with a critical mass of the populace. We have been living in a crisis of legitimacy for over a decade, and the political class does not grasp it. As the crisis worsens, the status quo becomes less tenable.

The status quo won't hold. It is not holding. The way to win is to articulate a vision of popular mobilization against an entrenched establishment. That's what resonates. The question is whether we will keep conceding the power of this populist moment to reactionaries like Trump.
