What's striking about all the message board wokeness and drama at Google is how none of it has had any effect on product decisions. Googlers see diversity as a workplace perk, not as a way to make the company better serve the world around them.https://gizmodo.com/google-fired-and-disciplined-employees-for-speaking-out-1822277125 …

which googlers do you mean? i can assure you that the ones i know would certainly like to make the company better serve the world. but can you blame them for feeling that they have no leverage when they are fired for even suggesting it?

I think the point Maciej is making is that industrial action >>> email threads.

Can you give me some examples of “industrial action” that you feel is missing? I cannot think of examples that these folks have not either done or would have put themselves at great risk to do.

honestly i find this reaction from Maciej deeply disheartening and tone deaf. trans employees at google are doing a hell of a thing just by surviving in tech, and they're also frequently, and in this case, the ones on the front lines. offer some solidarity.

I'm not picking on trans employees. I respect the fight they have to lead. I'm saying to all Google employees who care (because I know they are the majority)—do something that helps people outside Google, while you can.
