And spent the rest of the campaign appalled by his mistake. It would have been so easy for McCain to adopt Palin’s repulsive “real Americans” rhetoric in 1000 subtle ways. He undoubtedly had people advising him to do so. He chose not to and we’re a far better country for it.

I don't think you get a prize for not being racist, even in today's political climate. That's the minimum we should ask of any politician.
