They could have at least played that late-Bryan era recording of his Cross of Gold speech.

WHERE IS THE DAWES ACT? WHERE IS THE CHINESE EXCLUSION ACT? WHERE IS JIM CROW?

There really wasn't that great of possibility of class-based politics in 1896. Reality was that urban workers and farmers simply didn't trust each other.

Given there is 17 minutes left in this show, I'm glad it spent 49 minutes on rich people's parties instead of discussing, oh I don't know, people of color.

I am hating this Gilded Age American Experience show much more than I thought I would. I was optimistic!

A lot of potentially great commentary from outstanding historians wasted on this series that spent more than half it's time talking about the rich.

The Election of 1896 is not even an appropriate way to end the Gilded Age. The Gilded Age extends at least until 1915. The show completely fails to define what the Gilded Age even is.

I wonder when Nell Irvin Painter and Jack Kuo were asked to be talking heads, they were told the show would actually talk about black and Chinese people?

What do these editorial decisions look like? "Ah, fuck it, we don't need to talk about non-whites."

Did Congressional Republicans say they would cut PBS funding if PBS talked about black people? Now, THAT would be a New Gilded Age move!

      Replying to @ErikLoomis

PBS gets so much funding from Gilded Age-era foundations! I sense the dead hand of Carnegie
