I live and vote in California; I understand the system. It's February, and these 'fratricidal' primaries are in June.

Good, that gives plenty of time to work on the issue. But I'd hardly call worrying about the real possibility of 4-5 strong candidates pushing each other out of the top 2 being "afraid of grassroots energy" it's a real problem they are (and should be) attempting to navigate.

In terms of problems to have "too many strong candidates" is a pretty good one, but it's still a problem.
