well not a chocolate substitute but carob cookies or bars can be deliciously addictive in a don't -exactly -know-why way. plus goats go mad about it.

just recalled that my great-grandma regaled us with a story of how she secreted away 20 lt bottles of carob syrup, and used that to flavor /sweeten deserts for the family during the 4 year Nazi occupation.
