But this never happens without the accuser also having their life just shattered in a thousand ways. Why worry about a theoretical that is historically unlikely at the expense of making things better for women who are suffering now?

Because the first widely publicized case of it could provoke a backlash that will undo the very real progress being made at this point.

the accusation won't be anonymous in your real life -- afaik every firing has been the result of in-person investigations name not known to Twitter isn't the same thing as anonymous
