Our best hope for SF (and I’m not being cynical or facetious) is a huge earthquake that doesn’t kill anyone, but enables large scale infrastructure as part of rebuilding. Natural disasters are the most progressive force in American land use policy today.

There should be some better way to, say, get BART extended to Sausalito than by waiting for the Hayward Fault rip a big one so it becomes politically possible to work on large infrastructure projects. But right now, geology is the only force powerful enough to move California.
