Understanding white supremacy and fascism is essential. I’ve read more books about Nazis in my life than almost any other topic. (Invite me to your party for great conversation!) That piece? Biggest problem is it’s superficial and uninformative.

I don’t oppose profiles or reporting. Dynamics that attempt to normalize fascism *should* be studied. But I’ve read more informative pieces in the NYT weddings section.

People shouldn’t oppose profiles/study in general. One thing that helped me take Trump seriously, before the election, when everyone was laughing, is that I read almost every such piece I find, plus I seek the info. Informed is more powerful.

I even like the idea—show the rising normalcy of one strain of fascism. I don't need a condemnatory statement every other sentence either. So the guy belongs to a very tiny fascist party. TELL ME MORE HOW HE GOT THERE. Put in the social structure and dynamics. That's missing.

If it were that simple, the world wouldn't have burnt down in WWII. If anyone thinks there was a shortage of people willing to punch Nazis before the 1940s, they don't know a thing about history, or fascism, or how to defeat it. Ignorance is dangerous.https://twitter.com/SedentAdvis/status/934597254693863424 …

Wow, the author knows he didn't get to the real questions. So he calls the guy on the phone and gives up? Profiles are valuable, but not if they are less informative about the subject than a median piece in the NYT weddings section. https://twitter.com/mnot/status/934603614516953089 …pic.twitter.com/06unFvcmzz
