PSA: Most of the time, a “Performance Improvement Plan” given by your employer is really a soft firing. They expect (and want) you to quit.

This is so widely understood that, if you’re given a PIP by your management, it is reasonable to ask if you’re being managed out of the firm

Some (very smart!) people insist THEIR companies use P.I.P.s to I.P., not to fire. But those company still know perception around PIPs.
