That's so publishers can keep business separate from content. All major news outlets use the same division.

that’s not true at all. Newspapers sold their own ad inventory just fine

@christianpanton No, it's more complx. Publ. use ad-servers, because advertisers already have their ads there. +cost of own serv. -
Couldn't publisher reverse proxy the ads?
