For what it's worth, I've found the AskCarSales subreddit pretty interesting reading for pandemic-era car stuff.

Even before the pandemic, Bay Area car dealers tended towards high prices and poor service. If you know what you want, try calling dealers is less populated parts of the state or even So Cal. Mark ups outside the Bay Area are generally lower.
