A good analogy to NFT believers are the people who are really into colonizing Mars. You can argue with them on the technical demerits of their project (no air, far away, all our stuff is here, slow internet), but you're not really getting to the heart of their belief system.

I think a key differentiator here, though, is that people aren't spending money they can't afford on like, mars posters and stuff, encouraging all their friends that aren't into mars. Every person who gets grifted into participating in NFT makes the grift more attractive.

This grift is really, really good because it's not just preying on the greedy, it's preying on artists who are just trying to survive. It's preying on artists who aren't even involved in NFT as people steal their work to "get rich."
