And as a follow-up rant, the mail guy watched me put a single piece of paper in the flat envelope and then asked a long litany of questions about whether it contained lithium batteries, liquids, and God knows what else. Why do we have to live like this? Did we lose another war?

I mean, that's right in line with UPS Ground, which until very very recently found it more efficient to ship every single package in the USA through Kentucky.

I live next door to a large post office. They get deliveries from large trucks at least a dozen times a day. I think the idiotic elimination and destruction of the local sorting machines forcing all mail to go to a central site to be sorted is largely to blame.

It’s called 4 years of being systematically defunded. They don’t have funds and keep getting attacked. I don’t get it. To me it’s nothing less than magical that I can go to an office near me, stick a stamp on a letter and it’s in the other side of the world in a week.

Is it defunding that makes the guy ask me if I put lithium batteries in a flat envelope that weighs 100g?
