California may be reductio ad absurdum of 2021 Democratic party rule. The sate is too paralyzed to enact even the mildest substantive reforms, but heaven forfend you elect the other party, or else the sky would fall!https://twitter.com/RBReich/status/1435334007491686404 …

California is already the poorest state in the nation (adjusting for housing), half of it is on fire, no one can build anything, mass transit is impossible, the educational system is a shel of its former self. And the only slogan we're offered is "Republicans would make it worse"

National democratic politics now comes down to pleading with voters to re-elect an unchangeable slate of ineffective octogenarians to hold the line against cartoon villains on the right. And the cities that Democrats do control are armpits outside the rich areas. It's a problem.

What's the positive case for Republican rule in California though? I get the argument for cynicism. Progressive accomplishments like SB9/10 are few and far between, and maybe too little too late, but I'm not sure the GOP is even trying to present an alternative.

I always push back against accusations of cynicism. They get used a lot to deflect criticism of inefficacy. I don't see a positive case for Republican rule, but I would very much like to have a positive case for Democratic rule. That's my complaint.
