California may be reductio ad absurdum of 2021 Democratic party rule. The sate is too paralyzed to enact even the mildest substantive reforms, but heaven forfend you elect the other party, or else the sky would fall!https://twitter.com/RBReich/status/1435334007491686404 …

National democratic politics now comes down to pleading with voters to re-elect an unchangeable slate of ineffective octogenarians to hold the line against cartoon villains on the right. And the cities that Democrats do control are armpits outside the rich areas. It's a problem.

Have you been watching Texas and Florida? Of course it could be worse.

I feel like we tried “elect the entertainment star from the other party” as a solution to paralyzed government recently, and it didn’t work either.

It worked for me! I miss Arnie.

It makes me really uncomfortable to live in a One Party State TBH. Whether that's CA, FL or TX, one party rule leads to this stagnation and might cost the Democrats the governorship AND a senate seat.

Feinstein can quit TODAY and be replaced Newsom can quit TODAY and be replaced with the Lt Gov rendering the recall moot. BUT NO. They're power hungry.

Republicans make up less than 1/4 of the electorate. I'm frankly appalled we've allowed them this much leeway. Tell me in what other state can a third rate party get away with pulling off a statewide gubernatorial recall?

Republicans repealing the mask mandate would make things much worse.

I don't think this sort of political nihilism is helpful, even if it is on-brand. Just on housing we've made so much progress this past year, which would all be stopped if Elder is elected.
-
I don't think being honest is nihilism. Our great forward progress on housing mostly has to do with people leaving CA during the pandemic.
