You don't know cold fear until you've had to face down a deer in the wilderness without packing heat.https://twitter.com/T_Giarratano/status/1434586122424754178 …

Where are my firearms experts at? Of all the things hiking related, this is the one thing I am not well versed in. What type of firearm should a person carry out in the back country? Typical big critters one might run into: mountain lion, elk, bear, deer

The serious answer to the woman's question is to carry pepper spray (for the bear) and hike with someone smaller and slower (for the mountain lion).

There is no defense against 30-50 feral hogs until the American nanny state repeals its unjust restrictions on high-capacity magazines for maximum wilderness stopping power.

Also remember to have someone film you from a distance while taking your bison selfies, so everyone can see what happens after impact.

The drive to the trailhead is more dangerous than all those critters. The most dangerous wildlife encounter I've had was with a herd of elk.

The other serious answer is to have something that will make noise as you move. They sell bear bells but anything that makes noise wokrs. Bear spray is a good last resort but unless you know what you are doing there's a chance you're just conveniently seasoning their next meal.

Humans are capable of making noise without any equipment!

Are we not gonna talk about the fact that she’s allegedly going to (conservatively) add 18 pounds (not including ammunition) of weight to what she’s hiking around with? No way she’s actually hiking with all that.
