We were supposed to believe that immediately after a major terrorist attack, the same military that didn't notice the country they occupied was about to fall to the Taliban had actionable and accurate intelligence that could conveniently be acted on by remote control bombing.

What will it take to keep American reporters from automatically crediting Pentagon claims that drone strikes killed terrorists? Twenty years of murdering innocent civilians across Central Asia and the Middle East haven't been enough to break this habit of deference.
