The synergy here seems to be that the State Department emails people to come and then counts on some combination of the Taliban cordon and pure chaos to keep them from boarding a plane.https://twitter.com/BarakRavid/status/1429076033270165510 …

Later we'll get Biden saying that evacuation was offered to thousands but they chose not to take us up on it.

Direct diplomacy enabling evacuations to proceed -- thousands per day. But this is supposedly the greatest foreign policy "catastrophe" of the modern era. Afghanistan is remote, so we tend to think of it as a point location, but remember that this is just Kabul. Not pictures are tens of thousands of Afghans in other cities who need evacuation and don't even have the option of making a desperate run to this scene out of Dante.

Getting tired of hearing how the glacial pace of issuing visas is still Trump's fault, not Biden's policy. To put it briefly: 1. Screening can be done on US bases 2. Biden could bypass visas the same way Trump did 3. Biden has ignored every call to fix this 4. Biden is President

It wasn't Trump that made Biden accept the lowest number of refugees in modern history. Trump didn't send Kamala Harris to tell people in Guatemala to go fuck themselves. And it's not Trump who decided to use the Taliban as a de facto paramilitary branch of ICE right now.

Bden's policy of NPR-friendly xenophobia has been very successful. It moved us from talking about all the Afghans put at risk for working with us to the small subset who are SIV-eligible and can reach the Kabul airport. Soon we'll be told how everyone who wanted to got on a plane

People who for four years could never understand how Trump supporters found excuses for the inexcusable, this is how. Look in the mirror.
