An American friend came up in my feed recently saying in all sincerity that we should reach out to military veterans in this difficult time. There really is no limit to the extent of US self-absorption here.

Also seeing a lot of cheerleaders for the Iraq war back in the day lecturing us on the limits of American power, and labeling anyone dissatisfied with the mismanagement of our withdrawal as a warmonger. It takes a special brazenness to cheerlead so comfortably in both directions.

He's right, though. Lots of people are calling this the "biggest US foreign policy humiliation in generations". It's a mess, no question, but I don't think it's a bigger mess than the war as a whole.
