And of course as always the people doing the work are "on-the-ground fixers", which in this case means those Afghans the NYT is not helping to leave.pic.twitter.com/HCQsWXA8kf

I applaud the NYT and other media organizations for working to save their colleagues regardless of what passport they hold, but their coverage needs to make clear that they are active participants in the US military withdrawal, and cutting deals with the people they write about.
Like, is Hillary Clinton's offer of seats on her plane going to blunt the edge of the NYT's coverage of her emails? The public needs to know.
(If you're unfamiliar with the American journalese term "fixer", it means an uncredited local journalist who speaks the language. These people are not on a media company payroll, so they get to wave goodbye to the planes and then go home and try to fend for themselves.)
Another article about extracting journalists, this one from the Washington Post, that between the lines shows you how many strings have to be pulled to get people into the airport and onto a US military flight. Without powerful connections, you're toast.https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2021/08/20/kabul-airport-journalists-evacuation/ …
The White House is now just openly offering to fly out friends for the reporters and news organizations who are supposed to be disinterestedly covering the withdrawal from Afghanistanhttps://twitter.com/PhilipWegmann/status/1430258211475623943 …
