Everything else! In most cases you can argue whether this particular issue is worth incurring electoral costs. But in this case, where the cost will likely be “give Donald Trump an opening to run and win in 2024 and implement 10x the xenophobia”, harder to make the case.

And again, to be clear, we are machine-gunning ourselves in the foot at the start of a race with our immigration policy - all in service of a highly immoral vanity project of xenophobia. Our treatment of refugees is as good an expression of that as it gets. I wish were otherwise.
