I watched the first episode of a 2016 Chinese police procedural called "Medical Examiner Dr. Qin" last night, and I can't recommend it highly enough. Spoilers ahead, but as you'll see it doesn't really matter.

There’s a disinterest in aesthetics I find there that carries over to cinematography, which isn’t explicable by wealth. Oh, my favorite bit was the callback to the illegal parking job where everyone involved was showily following the rules and over the top non-corrupt.
