I don't follow the reasoning. If you find life, you keep sending more robots and try to bring some of it back for study.

I don't believe anybody would be satisfied with whatever limited programming could be crammed into a robot, vs being able to study on-site in-person. You wouldn't even know how to retrieve a live sample without killing it in the process.

Robotic probes are great, but they literally can only scratch the surface.
