A long time ago I wrote about the Norwegian approach to this, which is basically "fuck it, we're Norway, and if people choose to live remotely then by God they're getting a Norwegian standard of living anyway." I'm also partial to @aodespair's approach, which (if I understand him right) is "fuck it, we're an almost entirely urban country now, let's fix the cities". But the third-world poverty in large sections of the rural US is unfortunately closely tied to our system of misgovernment
