Yep. MALTESE FALCON Batman could work, as everyone assumes Spade is more corrupt than he actually is. (The ending even hinges on this misperception)

Exactly. Spade is unsentimental and cynical but he ABSOLUTELY has a moral code. I don’t see him using torture. I actually don’t see Spade doing anything illegal. He might go right up to that line but he’s just too damn smart to cross it.

I would love to write an adaption of The Maltese Falcon with Batman. (Who does O’Shaunnesy kill? Harvey Bullock? Guy Gardner?) I already have a Casablanca/Nick Fury pitch that Marvel wouldn’t buy in a million years.

You can just stealth do it! Sort of like how LONG HALLOWEEN/DARK VICTORY are so obviously influenced from THE GODFATHER. He steals whole lines!

Bullock might work in place of Archer. Or ... you could just create an “Archer-like” character from Bruce Wayne’s world, a major board member at Wayne Enterprises, who Bruce loathes.

I think I would have a hard time resisting the urge to bump off a douchey Justice Leaguer.

No disrespect to him… but Booster Gold kinda seems like a “I saw her first, Bruce!” kinda guy. “You’ve got brains, yes you have.” I will say this: in the unlikely event DC ever lets me get my hands on Batman, I will be VERY likely to write him as Hammett would have.

I’d love to see it! I would love to see a truly great detective story from BATMAN.

And a Batman that’s hard-boiled in the best Hammett way. Not “edgy” in the VERY BORING way that’s been done a thousand times. But hard-boiled about human psychology and behavior, like Hammett. And now I’m wanting to write a crossover between The Shadow and the Continental Op.

I want to see hard boiled detective Batman crossing paths with investigative journalist Clark Kent on a case that requires zero punching (or maybe just one).
