Climate hopelessness is a perfectly rational stance given the current state of the world, and I find myself getting increasingly irked by the moralizing against it on social media. People seem incapable of distinguishing between cynicism and squarely facing an unpleasant reality.

I think there's an effort to push back against hopelessness because it's self-fulfilling. Also, it's fundamentally a bet against human ingenuity -- it's conceivable that in the next 100 years, we invent our way out of the crisis.

I should be more specific about my hopelessness! It's not all-encompassing, and I strongly agree that ingenuity is the likely way out.
