Three times in my life now I have researched what the maximum possible temperature is on Earth's surface, Googled my way through a thicket of confusing papers, combed the references in those papers to reach the satisfying technical answer, and then forgotten it utterly.

Phoenix is not actually *that* hot with their record at 122F. Portland hit 115F today.

At these temperatures you're getting close to what is physically possible on Earth right now, so they're not going to be far apart. Phoenix is a thousand feet above Death Valley which right there loses it about five degrees
