We should probably bite the bullet and try turning GPS off in a controlled test to see what breaks.
The risk is systemic and comes from massive solar flares (like this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrington_Event …) or other weird space happenings where you can't treat satellite failures as independent

ah ok so it's this threat model, i was thinking anti-satellite missiles to start with anyways why stop at GPS? shouldn't we disable all communications satellites for a full test?

this is not meant to be sarcastic but it seems like testing along this path is equivalent to answering "how prepared is our city for a nuclear explosion" by nuking the city and seeing what happens the associated loss & cost is not worth the data gained
