My point is that there are also going to be local benefits to climate change and we should be honest about that, and perhaps even find a way to make use of it in building support for policy.

This is absolutely ghoulish and nonsensical. How will touting "local benefits" lead to anything beyond the status quo at best, and fascism at worst. Also do you not understand that climate change will lead to the death and displacement of untold numbers of people?

I'm not for touting anything. I believe that if we want to get laws passed, it's important to speak honestly about climate change, which includes the fact that it's going to benefit some places because nature is not a morality play.
