Here's the steps to this dance: 1. Flying car woo gets profiled in NYT 2. Everyone clicks because, hey, flying cars! 3. Investors throw money at "as featured in NYT" startups 4. $400B later, someone will demo 3 wingless "flying cars" on rails in a tunnelhttps://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/12/technology/flying-cars.html …

Oddly there is a better gas bag tech on the horizon. Solid spheres of aerogel. Filled with nothing. That could (big could) be the airship mass transit future we deserve. If/when a government realizes it’s potential to serve all.

(Spherical shells to be clear) at any rate yea capital accumulation into uninformed (but self assured) betting pools is no way to grow a future.

The US is just really bad at building public works, nobody is fully sure why but it doesn't help that the public sector can't hire good people to manage the projects because it doesn't pay enough. Then you end up with consultants running things.

They don’t have support because at this point it is obvious no one can get them done. Whether it is regulation, corruption, unions or what ... we can’t get more subway lines in NYC. It’s mysteriously 10x as expensive and takes 5-50x as long to finish anything.
