I agree with Timothy Snyder. This is where it's going, and there is presently nothing on the horizon that would stop it. https://snyder.substack.com/p/911-and-16 pic.twitter.com/7NPzevHtZv

I think this discounts the scenario where Republicans just win outright by clear majorities

Sure, that could happen. I don't think Snyder is discounting it. He just thinks his scenario is marginally more likely.

It's the really sweeping victories at the state level in places like Florida and Iowa that make me uneasy we're locking ourselves into a story where Republicans must cheat to win

So what’s the alternative approach if you think that @lara_putnam type mobilizing is no great help either? As far as can be from a rhetorical question given the importance of the matter and lack of compelling answers.

I think it's important to pass something that rapidly increases the standard of living in rural America. Infrastructure week! Or some de-woked rewrite of the Green New Deal that focuses on creating jobs and making people rich.

What would be removed from the GND to make it “de-woked” (whatever that is) rather than de-greened? Because the jobs-prosperity stuff is already foundational

It should be about how Americans are going to kick ass and get rich by inventing a whole new bunch of technology to electrify and decarbonize the economy, and leave out the rhetoric about various flavors of justice entirely.

That’s an easy tweak! mention of systemic injustices is a tiny fraction of the AOC-Markey proposal. Alas even “the government should invest in decarbonization and getting rich” is “woke” too.

That's what made it so much more annoying, the fact that it's an entirely avoidable self-own on an issue that, if properly handled, could split the right.

dems love self owning on uniting issues which is why I think the progressive / yang factions are the only way to onboard rural groups I don’t think we can do it fast enough though because we keep self owning each other before we even get to our potential allies
