The thing I really enjoy about non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and "smart contracts" more broadly is that there's no way to get them to point to information or objects outside the blockchain without introducing a trusted third party, the whole thing you set up a blockchain to avoid.

Obviously the validity for art, gaming use cases (have seen quite a few more advanced than Warcraft marketplace - check out Aavegotchi maybe) and metaverses, DRM, digital twinning, & supply chain management, particularly cross border trade, are huge areas of applicability here.

Even moderately-sized distribution and warehousing operations require constant reconciliation. Immutability is a bug, not a feature, for supply chain management.
