We're entering a weird era of Memorial Days when there are almost no veterans still living who fought in defense of their country, and an overwhelming majority who sacrificed friends, youth, and their own bodies in the pursuit of national goals that were never explained.

This is very true, but also the modwrn United States begins with WW2 and in many ways Memorial Day a second founding day and so deserves recognition past the death of the last veteran. We should still question the value of every death in every war though.

Memorial Day isn't (supposed to be) about the wars themselves but the individuals who died while doing the bidding of their country. Having thoughtful people with a diversity of views (about what they're told to do) is a benefit.

I'm all for questioning the legitimacy of the post-WW2 military adventurism of the United States, but you're pitching the memorialization of the individuals as glorification of the (mis)adventures themselves.
