You may be right. But I think in practice it is necessary to pick a lane and put all resources behind it.

You may be right too! (maybe if the Democrats build a base that allows them to win elections, many of these problems will fade away). But I think it is worthwhile at the very least placing a side-bet on figuring out institutional politics, feedback loops to drain away crazy etc.

On the basis that even if it doesn't win elections, it may make the costs of losing them less starkly horrible than they might be.
