The promise of crypto as a stable store of value against inconstant fiat currencies has failed, too. The volatility on all time scales is extraordinary, and it's coupled with illiquidity, particularly in a crisis. If there's a bank run on crypto, good luck selling!

The one use case I can think of that makes sense to me is to use NFTs as digital bearer bonds, and the value of the digital token should then be tied to the volume of transaction fees on that network. The current prices and use don't reflect that, but it's at least a hypo use.

Very refreshing to see mainstream media allow this to be called for what it is. One thing I will critique is that you are referring to BTC as Bitcoin. Take a look at this website and video from the Bitcoin association. https://thatsbtcnotbitcoin.com/ https://youtu.be/aRldRdk50JQ

I wrote an article in 2015 on blockchain hype and the music industry and a follow up in 2017 saying if it didn’t solve “x” it would fail. I then said just use Git. Not one of the problems cited has been solved in 6 years, but a lot of $ has been wasted.
